| Patrick Newton, "stroke, balance, shaking" | Oct 28 2010 4:35 PM |
| 5 years ago, I suffered a minor-stroke while I slept. Not knowing that I had, I awoke in the morning and the left side of my body was in a state of paralysis. I remember rising from my bed and just falling straight to the floor. Somehow, I managed to get out to my G.P.'s who instantly sent me to see a neurologist at our main Hospital, - Blackpool Victoria Hospital. I had numerous tests over the next few weeks, not really knowing how a bodies nervous -centre works, it was all explained to me in neurologistic-talk, and I didn't really understand it. The main outcome was "there isn't much research being done in the area that was affecting me", and I was just put on various vitamins and a lot of physio. After about 2 years of vitamins and physio with no change within myself, I just gave them both up thinking that this wasn't benefiting me. I started to help myself to walk better with the aid of a walking stick and about a year ago I saved up and bought a mobility-scooter. Having my scooter was a god-send,I didn't just sit around my flat anymore, I could go out and do my own shopping etc. In our area Lytham St Annes we have a magazine delivered free every month called "Local List" about business and services that are available to us locally. One advert that crossed my mind was about a "Bowen Therapist" called Andy Eckley and one of his "services" was that he could help people with posture and balance. After a couple of days thinking about it I decided to give this Andy a call, concerning my "balance-health" it was the best thing I've done health wise. I've now had, I think about 4 sessions. Andy has done more for me than all the physios, medication and doctors have over the last 5 years, extraordinary. Don't get me wrong, but when I go to the shops now I go without my stick, my balance has definitely improved. I can also go to sleep on my back which I couldn't do before. He has managed to erase the "shakes" I used to have in my arms. Gradually, I have started feeling my thigh muscles as solid instead of them feeling like jelly and weak over the years. Andy has always made me feel at ease at his practice. I always make a contribution to his Children's Clinic charity, money well spent. I can definitely recommend Andy for his work. I am still having "sessions" with Andy and hopefully, one day, I'll be able to sell my scooter and get back to some sort of work. I will continue to see Andy as long as he and myself think I need his "services". Patrick Newton (Age 47) Lytham St Annes Lancs. |

| Miss A, "clumsiness, stomach pains" | Oct 28 2010 12:54 PM |
| My 5 year old daughter has always experienced clumsiness, lack of co-ordination and constant loss of balance for no apparent reason. She has been receiving Bowen treatment from Andy Eckley since February 2010 and is making fantastic progress. She now rarely falls over for no reason and she can confidently negotiate all park equipment without falling off and consequently hurting herself. The biggest change is using a scooter, one of the slimline metal ones. She is so incredibly confident on it and really enjoys riding it. I cannot help but laugh and feel very proud when I see her on it, as this and other balancing activities are now for the first time, a natural part of her life. Andy has also used the Emmett technique to treat a constant stomach ache my daughter had. She complained about it every day and said she could never remember not having the pain. Our Doctor couldn't find any reason for the pain even after 5 years of tests. Andy asked about her birth and after I said it was assisted with forceps, and that they turned her around very sharply before birth. He explained that the trauma of the sharp twisting maneuver used to turn her around from a back to back position ready for her birth would have caused the psoas muscle to go into spasm causing the pain. He conducted his gentle moves where my daughter said she was having the pain and over two months later she hasn't once complained about her stomach and has said that the pain has disappeared. I would highly recommend anyone to try the Bowen Technique. |
